2026 Gachon University, Department of Fine Arts & Design, Painting major Graduation Exhibition 《루트》 (Root, route.) The exhibition 〈Root〉 begins by looking at the lives and creative journeys of the graduates through the image of plant roots, each searching the soil for nourishment and reaching out in its own direction. Just as roots that have grown in different directions meet within a single soil, works that started from individual lives and experiences can also form relationships with one another in a single space and create new meaning. In 〈Root〉, viewers encounter the experiences and concerns held within each work, while also discovering the similarities and differences that emerge between them, and the points where they touch. The exhibition proposes a viewing route: after encountering the finished works in the gallery, visitors head to the open studios of the art college. There, looking at traces of the environments and processes in which the works were made, they can trace back the path by which each work pushed through its soil and grew into what it is now. We do not expect this exhibition to fully capture the participants' past four years, nor to carry the grand meaning that their art begins anew or ends here. Yet just as we count the time it took for a flower in full bloom to open, or guess at the depth of the years by looking into a tree's rings, the works we have made cannot help but carry the scent of the soil each of us has lived in. We hope that what each of us has found and nurtured there will bloom like a flower in this exhibition, and become an occasion for new experiences and reflection for the viewer.
